Abstract
The revised licensing instructions for recycling companies in Jordan aim to enhance the business environment and enable sustainable growth and investments in integrated solid waste management operations. The instructions recommend adopting a logic that adopts waste management definitions and includes new waste management and recycling activities. The Activity seeks to review and draft recommended amendments and additions to the Jordan Standard Industrial Classification Guide (JORSIC). The proposed modifications include re-classifying some activities under the correct subheadings and modifying ID codes accordingly. The Activity also recommends reflecting the contents of the JORSIC on the ministry's methodologies and amending associated regulations to ensure standardization of classification. The Activity has further recommended highlighting the implications of the Environmental Classification and Licensing Bylaw on environmental categories and associated site requirements. The Activity also suggests updating the registration platform of the National Monitoring Information System for Waste (NMISW) with the approved JORSIC to unify all relevant ministry and registration processes.
