Abstract
The injection system consists of a Uniject device, which includes a reservoir, port, needle, and needle shield. The injection site can be located on the back of the upper arm, the abdomen (excluding the navel), or the front of the thigh. Prior to administration, the site should be cleaned if necessary. The expiration date on the Uniject should be checked to ensure the device is within its usable timeframe. To prepare the Uniject, the user must first mix the solution by holding the device by the port and shaking it vigorously for approximately 30 seconds. The device should not be bent during this process, and the user should verify that the solution is mixed and there is no damage or leaking. If a delay occurs before administration, the solution should be remixed. The Uniject is then activated by closing the gap between the needle shield and the port. This is achieved by pushing the needle shield firmly into the port while holding the Uniject by the port. The needle shield should be removed, and the user should verify that the gap is fully closed to ensure proper function. To administer the injection, the user should gently pinch the skin at the injection site to create a "tent" for inserting the needle. The needle should be inserted at a downward angle, with the port in full contact with the skin to ensure the correct depth. The user should not aspirate during the injection and should squeeze the reservoir slowly for 5 to 7 seconds. After administration, the Uniject should be discarded in a puncture-proof container, without replacing the needle shield. The Sayana Press injection system is a registered trademark of Pfizer, Inc., and the Uniject is a trademark of BD.
