Abstract
The program aims to increase the adoption of renewable energy in developing countries. The SURE initiative is managed by Tetra Tech ES, Inc., and is supported by the Energy and Infrastructure Office of USAID. The SURE initiative focuses on several key areas, including strategic energy planning, competitive procurement, grid integration, and smart incentives. In Ghana, the initiative is conducting a case study on integrated resource and resilience planning (IRRP) to identify opportunities for renewable energy integration. The study aims to develop a comprehensive energy plan that balances energy supply and demand. In Colombia, the SURE initiative is supporting the development of a competitive renewable energy market. The program is working with the Ministry of Mines and Energy to design and implement a competitive procurement process for renewable energy projects. The initiative is also providing technical assistance to the Colombian government to develop a renewable energy policy framework. The SURE initiative is also working on several other projects, including the development of a clean energy technology and innovation fund, and the implementation of a knowledge management and coordination system. The program is also conducting a study to inform mini-grid policy in Africa, and is supporting the development of a power auction system in South Africa. The SURE initiative is working with several international partners, including the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The program is also collaborating with several government agencies, including the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Energy. The SURE initiative has several key deliverables, including the development of a comprehensive energy plan for Ghana, the design and implementation of a competitive procurement process for renewable energy projects in Colombia, and the development of a clean energy technology and innovation fund. The program is also expected to provide technical assistance to several countries to develop their renewable energy policies and regulations. The SURE initiative is expected to have several key outcomes, including increased adoption of renewable energy in developing countries, improved energy access and security, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The program is also expected to contribute to the achievement of several of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) and SDG 13 (climate action). The SURE initiative is funded by USAID and is managed by Tetra Tech ES, Inc. The program is supported by several international partners and government agencies. The initiative is expected to continue until 2023, and is expected to have several key deliverables and outcomes.
