Abstract
The project seeks to increase access to priority health information, products, and services through the private sector. During Year Four, SHOPS Plus worked to significantly increase access to priority health information, products, and services through the private sector. The project provided 554,454 couple years of protection (CYP) to avert unintended pregnancy in Afghanistan, Haiti, Madagascar, Nigeria, Senegal, and Tanzania. This represents a significant achievement in the distribution and delivery of contraceptives. In addition to contraceptive distribution, SHOPS Plus facilitated the treatment of nearly 535,000 cases of childhood diarrhea with zinc and oral rehydration solution (ORS) and the treatment of more than 400 million liters of drinking water with chlorine water treatment solution. The project also provided 25,221 artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) in Tanzania and 126,126 insecticide-treated bed nets in Senegal, contributing to malaria prevention. Furthermore, SHOPS Plus iron folate sales provided nearly 5,000 pregnant women with a three-month supply of iron folate supplements during pregnancy. SHOPS Plus implemented social and behavior change communication (SBCC) campaigns that leveraged mass media, digital health, and interpersonal communication to reach more than 32 million consumers in Haiti, India, Madagascar, Nigeria, and Tanzania. These campaigns aimed to promote the use of priority health products and services through the private sector. The SHOPS Plus Global Performance Monitoring Plan (PMP) serves to track implementation of SHOPS Plus program activities at the global level, monitor project implementation and the achievement of program results, inform SHOPS Plus project implementation, and facilitate learning among SHOPS Plus staff and external stakeholders. The PMP highlights indicators aligned with the overall SHOPS Plus results framework, which focuses on increasing use of priority health products and services through private sector approaches. The project's results framework is organized into several key areas, including enabling environment, supply, demand, access through financing mechanisms, quality, sustainability, public-private engagement, and innovative private sector models supported and knowledge disseminated. The framework provides a comprehensive approach to measuring the project's impact and effectiveness in improving health outcomes through the private sector. SHOPS Plus has made significant progress in improving health outcomes in family planning, HIV/AIDS, Maternal and Child Health, and other health areas. The project's focus on increasing access to priority health information, products, and services through the private sector has led to significant achievements in contraceptive distribution, treatment of childhood diarrhea, and malaria prevention. The project's social and behavior change communication campaigns have also reached a large number of consumers, promoting the use of priority health products and services through the private sector.
