Abstract
The project seeks to catalyze public-private engagement and improve the equity and quality of the total health system, accelerating progress toward universal health coverage. The SHOPS Plus project is implemented by Abt Associates Inc. in partnership with several organizations, including the American College of Nurse-Midwives, Avenir Health, and Population Services International. The project operates in multiple countries, including Afghanistan, Haiti, India, Madagascar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, and Tanzania, as well as the Middle East and North Africa Region. The project's results framework is designed to achieve four key results: an improved enabling environment for the private health sector, expanded utilization of private sector information, products, and services at the community and health facility levels, increased effective public-private engagement to improve health outcomes, and innovative, emerging, and tested private sector models surfaced, disseminated, and applied. In Year Three, the project focused on several key activities, including population and reproductive health core, child health core, and HIV and AIDS core. The project also implemented activities in specific countries, such as Afghanistan, Haiti, India, Madagascar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, and Tanzania. The project's activities aimed to improve health outcomes in family planning, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, and other health areas. The project's results in Year Three included improved enabling environments for the private health sector, expanded utilization of private sector information, products, and services, and increased effective public-private engagement. The project also surfaced, disseminated, and applied innovative, emerging, and tested private sector models. However, the project also faced several challenges, including limited resources and capacity constraints. The SHOPS Plus project's activities and results are reported in detail in the Year Three Annual Report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the project's progress and achievements. The report highlights the project's successes and challenges, as well as its plans for future activities and outcomes.
