Abstract
The partnership focuses on addressing energy security, access, and sustainability challenges in the region. SAREP is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by Research Triangle Institute International (RTI). The SAREP program is guided by a logical framework that outlines the expected results and indicators for measuring progress. The framework emphasizes the importance of energy access, energy efficiency, and renewable energy in achieving sustainable development in the region. SAREP's work is organized into several workstreams, including management of communication, collaboration, and coordination, technical services, and partnership fund activities. One of the key areas of focus for SAREP is capacity building, which involves providing training and technical assistance to partner countries to enhance their energy sector capacity. This includes support for energy policy development, institutional strengthening, and human resources development. SAREP also places a strong emphasis on gender equality, women's empowerment, and social inclusion, recognizing the critical role that women and marginalized communities play in energy access and sustainability. In FY 2021, SAREP made significant progress in implementing its program activities. The partnership fund supported several initiatives, including the development of a gender audit approach, capacity building programs, and private sector engagement activities. SAREP also conducted stakeholder consultations and workshops to engage with key stakeholders and build partnerships. The SAREP program has several key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure progress towards its expected results. These KPIs include the number of partner countries that have developed energy sector plans, the number of capacity building programs implemented, and the number of private sector partnerships established. In FY 2021, SAREP reported progress towards several of these KPIs, including the development of energy sector plans in several partner countries and the implementation of several capacity building programs. Overall, the SAREP program is making significant contributions to energy cooperation and collaboration in South Asia. The partnership's focus on capacity building, gender equality, and private sector engagement is critical to achieving sustainable energy development in the region.
