Abstract
The project endeavors to benefit approximately 1.3 million public primary school students in Grade 1 and 2 from PRP-trained teachers. The project is being implemented in a cohort-wise manner, with different districts and schools in six target regions included in PRP at different time periods. The student enrollment survey is a key component of the PRP activity work plan, designed to collect information about the number of Grade 1 & 2 students enrolled in all targeted public primary schools under the project. The survey is implemented on a yearly basis in every school for each cohort, with the first survey completed for cohort-1&2 schools for gathering enrollment data for the year 2015-16. The survey report entails the results and outcomes of enrollment data collected for cohort-1&2 schools with subsequent analysis. The outcomes of the survey intend to track the number of students receiving PRP reading intervention against the target of 1.3 million students. The results of the yearly-based enrollment survey will contribute information against the MSF indicator of "Number of learners receiving reading interventions at primary level" and will be used to set baseline and end-line numbers of students exposed to the PRP reading intervention. The survey will report separately for two levels of PRP beneficiaries: direct and indirect beneficiaries. Direct beneficiaries are classified as those students who would be reached with direct USG assistance, funded in part or in whole by USG. Direct beneficiaries of PRP are further classified into active and passive students. Active students are those who would be reached during the full two-year intervention period, while passive students will benefit from two full years of improved reading instruction over the life of the project under teachers receiving PRP training and materials. The survey is census-based, implemented in all targeted public primary schools under the project. For the year 2015-16, primary data was collected from 8187 schools in cohort-1 and 02 across 06 regions. The key findings of the survey include a total of 227099 active students who are currently studying in Grade 1 and would be provided full PRP interventions for two years. Out of these total active students, 91117 Grade-1 students are enrolled in Cohort Schools, while 135982 students are currently in Cohort 2 schools. The ratio of boys and girls students in Grade-1 is almost the same, with 113487 boys and 113612 girls out of 227099 total students. Almost 27% (2173 out of 8187) PRP schools have student enrollment less than or equal to 10 students. During the period from April-Sept, enrollment data was again collected from sample schools to examine any change in enrollment, showing a 6% increase in Grade-01 enrollment during this period. Verification of previously reported enrollment data shows an overall 5.20% variance in previously reported enrollment data.
