Abstract
The survey, designed and coordinated by the Middle East Marketing and Research Consultants on behalf of the International Republican Institute, aimed to gauge the opinions of 1,000 Jordanian individuals aged 18 and above. The poll found that 25% of respondents believed that things were going mostly in the right direction, while 39% thought they were going somewhat in the right direction. Conversely, 19% believed that things were going mostly in the wrong direction, and 8% thought they were going entirely in the wrong direction. The remaining 9% were unsure or did not know. When asked about the main reason for considering things in Jordan to be going in the right direction, the most common responses included improved citizens' daily conditions, stability and security, and the Hashemite leadership. On the other hand, the main reasons for considering things to be going in the wrong direction were rising prices, administrative and financial corruption, weak economic conditions, unemployment, and the refugee influx. The poll also inquired about the single biggest problem facing Jordan as a whole. The most common responses included the current economic situation, rising prices, unemployment, poverty, and terrorism. When asked to describe the current economic situation in Jordan, 54% of respondents described it as "bad," while 22% described it as "very bad." Only 9% believed the situation to be "very good," and 13% described it as "good." The reasons cited for the current economic situation being in "good" or "very good" shape included improved safety and security, individual incomes, basic needs fulfillment, job creation, new direct investments, and the provision of basic services. These factors were mentioned by respondents who believed the economic situation was improving, with 66% of respondents citing one or more of these reasons. The poll's findings provide insight into the opinions and concerns of Jordanian citizens regarding the country's direction and economic situation. The results highlight the importance of addressing issues such as corruption, unemployment, and the refugee influx, as well as improving the overall economic situation.
