Abstract
The Society's motto is "Good Nutrition – Better Life," and its mission is to promote the understanding, integration, and sharing of accurate nutrition information in all aspects of life. The Society's main objects include representing the interests and serving as the public voice of the nutrition profession at national and international levels. It also aims to maintain and enforce nutrition training and practice standards and ethical approaches to the nutrition profession and practice. Additionally, the Society seeks to influence national and local policy development to improve standards of nutrition in Malawi. The Society has various categories of membership, including Active Members, Associate Members, Retired Members, Student Members, Corporate Members, and Honorary Lifetime Members. Active Members must hold nutrition-related degrees or diplomas and be registered with the Medical Council of Malawi. Associate Members are non-voting members with an interest in food and nutrition-related topics. Retired Members are Active or Associate Members who have retired from their employment or business and are not holding paying jobs. The Society's Executive Committee is responsible for granting membership to the Society following the submission of complete applications. A person, organization, or body corporate that desires to become a member of the Society in any category, apart from Honorary Lifetime Membership, shall be required to pay such application fees and membership fees as the Trustees may from time to time determine for each category of membership. A member shall cease to be a member of the Society upon the expiry of three months after a member has delivered to the Society's Secretariat three months written notice of its intention to resign as a member of the Society. The Society may also remove any member who has failed to pay membership fees, failed to attend three consecutive general meetings without a valid excuse, failed to comply with the Constitution or the Rules or the Code of Conduct, or been disaffiliated from the Society in accordance with the terms of the Constitution. The Society's motto and mission are reflected in its various activities, including promoting the understanding, integration, and sharing of accurate nutrition information, maintaining and enforcing nutrition training and practice standards, influencing national and local policy development, and advocating for the nutrition needs of consumers, providers, populations, and communities. The Society also provides a forum for nutrition information exchange, sharing technical and training advice, and networking among members and stakeholders.
