Abstract
The country's fresh vegetable production is export-oriented, with both fresh and processed products being exported. The production of vegetables in Macedonia is divided into two main categories: early season production in protected areas in the southern parts of the country with a Mediterranean climate, and open-field production in the eastern and southern regions with a moderate climate. The total annual production volume of vegetables in Macedonia is estimated to be approximately 900,000 tons, with a significant portion being destined for regional markets. Early season vegetable production, primarily intended for export, accounts for around 80% of the total production. In contrast, open-field production is traditionally focused on the domestic fresh market and the domestic processing industry. The main vegetable crops produced in Macedonia include potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, melons, cabbage, cucumbers, and other varieties.
