The International Communications Agency, acting through private U.S. organizations, will provide scholarships to 100 participants who will pursue undergraduate and professional studies at U.S. colleges and universities in development sciences - including agriculture, business administration, engineering, economics, management, and physics - and will then return to South Africa. PP Supplement and Amendment of 5/87 authorizes long-term training and administrative support costs for student intake for the years 1988-92. (PD-BBP-459) Amendment of 3/89 authorizes short-term training inputs which had been planned for the 5/87 amendment, but not authorized, including (1) a general fund for the training needs of private community organizations and of organizations involved in other USAID/SA projects, and (2) support for the Career Development Program which provides individualized U.S. academic and practical training for black South Africans in mid-career positions.
