Abstract
The project is implemented by Pathfinder International and is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The program focuses on expanding the client base, especially for the poor, for quality Essential Service Package (ESP) services. In November 2014, the project achieved a total of 134,565 Couple Years of Protection (CYP), with 62% of these coming from rural areas and 38% from urban areas. This represents a 7% increase from October 2014. The CYP by method-mix from January 2013 to November 2014 shows that the majority of the CYP (49%) was achieved through short-term methods, followed by Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) (30%), and permanent methods (4%). The total number of service contacts in November 2014 was 3,057,831, with 62% coming from rural areas and 38% from urban areas. This represents a 4% increase from October 2014. The percentage of service contacts who qualify as poor was 39.7% of all contacts, with 38.8% of rural service contacts and 41.3% of urban service contacts qualifying as poor. The project also conducted various training programs in November 2014. A day-long orientation on 'Social Analysis and Action (SAA)' was jointly organized by Shimantik and SSKS at Sylhet, with 26 mid-level staff of SHCs participating. The training aimed to add gender awareness in health service provisions. Additionally, three workshops were organized to build social awareness on Gender Equality and to reduce Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The project also conducted an orientation on Clinic Management, which was held on 5-6 November 2014, with 48 participants from NGOs, Clinic Managers, Project Managers, and Monitoring Officers attending. The orientation focused on the implementation of ESP services, quality of services, record-keeping, documentation, guidelines, and manuals used to provide efficient health services for clients at clinics. The project also conducted a Quarterly Performance Review meeting (QPRM) on TB, which was held on 25 November 2014, and was organized by BRAC/GFATM. All eight TB NGOs of the SH network attended the meeting and presented their performance for the quarter of July-September 2014. The SH NGOs' performance in diagnosing and treating TB was found to be improved compared to the previous quarter and the quarter one year back. The project also conducted a meeting with three members' team from Dhaka North City Corporation, led by the Chief Health Officer, on 25 November 2014, at NHSDP Conference room. The main purpose of the meeting was to know each other's activities in regard to health services in Dhaka North City Corporation area and how to make best use of resources to provide health services for the poor and poorest of the poor in Dhaka City. The project also conducted a meeting with the 1st USAID-DFID NHSDP Advisory Committee, which was held on 30 November 2014, in the Conference room of MoHFW. The meeting was presided over by Mr. A.M. Badrudduja, Additional Secretary, MoHFW. The CoP presented the activities of NHSDP through Surjer Hashi clinics in the meeting, highlighting the opportunity of different ministries where NHSDP can easily collaborate with Govt. health activities to service the community, especially for the poor and vulnerable people.
