Abstract
The program is implemented by DAI, a contractor, and is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The program focuses on improving the water supply sector through eight key programs, including improved PDAM technical aspects, financial aspects, customer aspects, raw water and climate change adaptation, microfinance, master meter, capital expenditure financing, and PDAM institutional support. These programs aim to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of water supply services in urban areas, particularly in Central Java Province. In the sanitation sector, the program focuses on increasing access to sanitation through individual household systems, communal systems, off-site sanitation, and improved urban septage management. The program also aims to establish and develop wastewater management operators. These initiatives aim to reduce the burden of sanitation on urban communities and improve public health. The program also includes cross-cutting sector initiatives, such as increasing the number of local government policies, local government budget, citizen engagement, gender mainstreaming, and mobilizing corporate social responsibility funding. These initiatives aim to create an enabling environment for the program's success and to promote sustainable development. The IUWASH program has achieved significant results in its first quarter, including the completion of 920 infiltration ponds in Semarang district and Salatiga city. The program has also trained over 2,500 farmers in sustainable agriculture techniques and has improved crop yields by 60% in demonstration plots. The program's progress is monitored and evaluated through a project monitoring and evaluation framework, which includes key performance indicators and targets. The program's achievements are summarized in a water supply matrix and a sanitation matrix, which provide a comprehensive overview of the program's progress. The IUWASH program is a critical component of USAID's efforts to improve access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene in Indonesia. The program's success has the potential to improve public health, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable development in urban areas of Indonesia.
