Abstract
The activity is led by Tetra Tech, in partnership with the Government of Madagascar and local organizations. The activity's overall goal is to enhance the resilience of rural communities to climate change, while promoting sustainable natural resource management and economic growth. To achieve this goal, the activity is implementing a range of interventions, including the development of community-based natural resource management plans, the establishment of marine protected areas, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture practices. One of the key components of the activity is the MaMaBaie project, which aims to improve the livelihoods of rural communities in the Menabe region through the development of sustainable agriculture practices and the promotion of market access. The project is being implemented in partnership with local communities, NGOs, and government agencies, and is expected to benefit over 10,000 households. The activity is also working to promote climate resilience through the development of climate risk management plans and the implementation of climate-resilient agriculture practices. This includes the use of climate-resilient crop and animal varieties, as well as the promotion of agroforestry and conservation agriculture practices. In terms of geographic focus, the activity is being implemented in several regions of Madagascar, including the Menabe and Sava regions. The activity is also working to promote cross-cutting issues, including gender equality, youth empowerment, and environmental protection. The activity's progress is being monitored and evaluated through a range of indicators, including the number of households benefiting from the activity, the area of land under sustainable agriculture practices, and the number of climate-resilient agriculture practices adopted by farmers. The activity's performance is also being tracked through a range of reports and dashboards, including the Indicator Performance Tracking Table and the Performance Plan Reporting (PPR) system. Overall, the USAID Mikajy Activity is making significant progress in improving the livelihoods of rural communities in Madagascar, while promoting sustainable natural resource management and climate resilience. The activity's interventions are expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of people, and will contribute to the achievement of the country's development goals.
