Abstract
The project is implemented by World Wildlife Fund, Inc. in partnership with Worldwide Fund for Nature - Tanzania, IHE Delft, Lake Victoria Basin Water Board (LVBWB), Rural Water and Sanitation Agencies (RUWASAs), Urban Water and Sanitation Agencies (UWASAs), Local Government Authorities (LGAs), Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC), Catchment Committees, Water Users Associations (WUAs), and Civil Society Organizations. The project's geographic coverage includes the Mara River Catchment in the north-west of Tanzania, specifically in Musoma, Serengeti, Rorya, Butiama, Tarime, and Bunda districts. The project aims to improve water resources management, enhance catchment conservation, and promote sustainable water use in the MRC. The project's overarching activity objectives include enabling water institutions in the MRC to engage, coordinate, and implement transboundary water resources governance, improving community water supply through water resources conservation best practices, and developing recommendations for water user financing mechanisms that enhance catchment conservation. To achieve these objectives, the project will implement several key activities, including Intermediate Result 1, which focuses on enabling water institutions in the MRC to engage, coordinate, and implement transboundary water resources governance. This will involve strengthening the capacity of water institutions, promoting coordination and collaboration among stakeholders, and developing and implementing policies and regulations that support transboundary water resources governance. Intermediate Result 2 aims to improve community water supply through water resources conservation best practices in the MRC. This will involve promoting the use of water-saving technologies, improving water management practices, and enhancing community participation in water resources management. Intermediate Result 3 focuses on developing recommendations for water user financing mechanisms that enhance catchment conservation. This will involve conducting research and analysis on water user financing mechanisms, developing and testing innovative financing models, and providing recommendations for policy and regulatory changes that support catchment conservation. The project will also implement a project monitoring, learning, reporting, and communication system to track progress, identify lessons learned, and share best practices with stakeholders. The project will also conduct regular progress reports and evaluations to ensure that the project is on track to meet its planned results and performance targets. The project budget for FY 2024 is outlined in the budget section of the annual work plan. The budget includes funding for personnel, travel, equipment, and other project-related expenses. The project's monitoring, evaluation, and learning plan outlines the approach and methodology for monitoring and evaluating project progress, identifying lessons learned, and sharing best practices with stakeholders. The plan includes a learning agenda, M&E systems, evaluation and research plan, and M&E plan matrix. The project's management structure includes a management team, staffing plan, reporting requirements, and international travel plan. The management team will be responsible for overseeing project implementation, ensuring that project activities are on track to meet planned results and performance targets, and making decisions on project management and operations. The project's annexes include a project fact sheet, environmental mitigation and monitoring plan, and other supporting documents. The project fact sheet provides an overview of the project, including its objectives, scope, and timeline. The environmental mitigation and monitoring plan outlines the measures that will be taken to mitigate the environmental impacts of the project and monitor its environmental performance. Overall, the Mara River Catchment (MRC) in Tanzania project aims to improve water resources management, enhance catchment conservation, and promote sustainable water use in the MRC. The project will implement several key activities to achieve its objectives, including strengthening water institutions, promoting community water supply, and developing recommendations for water user financing mechanisms.
