Abstract
The activity is being implemented over a period of five years (2021-2026) with a budget of $30.5 million. The primary objective of the activity is to reduce threats to biodiversity in Tanzania while moving Tanzanian institutions further on their journey to self-reliance. The activity will be implemented in six corridors, including the Kwakuchinja Wildlife Corridor, Tarangire - Simanjiro Plains, Kigosi Moyowosi - Uvinza Corridor, Nyerere Selous - Udzungwa Corridor, Amani - Nilo Corridor, and Pemba Channel Conservation Area. These corridors account for 2,020,676 hectares of globally important biodiversity hotspots and ecoregions. The activity will establish a connection between the Kigosi Moyowosi - game reserves and 1,658,466 hectares of the Gombe-Masito-Ugalla biosphere reserve. The activity will focus on three main objectives: increasing private sector engagement in conservation and natural resources management (NRM), building the capacity of the public sector and civil society, and strengthening the policy and regulatory framework for conservation and NRM. The activity will also support the implementation of both USAID and the Government of Tanzania (GoT) policies and strategies, including the USAID Biodiversity Policy and Code, and the GoT's Wildlife Policy, Tourism Policy, Forest Policy, Environment Policy, and Tanzania Development Vision 2025. The activity will be implemented in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the GoT, civil society organizations, and private sector entities. The activity will also involve the establishment of a connection between the Kigosi Moyowosi - game reserves and 1,658,466 hectares of the Gombe-Masito-Ugalla biosphere reserve. The activity will be implemented in six corridors, with a focus on the following objectives: * Objective 1: Build institutional capacities of both public and private stakeholders * Objective 2: Increase private sector engagement in biodiversity conservation and natural resources * Objective 3: Improve the policy, regulatory, and enabling environment for biodiversity conservation and NRM The activity will also focus on cross-cutting themes, including integrated and synergistic implementation, coordination with other USAID implementing partners and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT), strategic grants program, innovation and replicable, scalable activities, monitoring, evaluation, and learning, and stakeholder engagement and communication approach. The activity will be implemented over a period of 12 months, from October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022. The activity will be monitored and evaluated regularly to ensure that it is meeting its objectives and making progress towards its goals.
