Abstract
The strategy was prepared by Women Influencing Health, Education, and Rule of Law (WI-HER) in collaboration with RTI International and the USAID Tuhifadhi Maliasili team. The development of this strategy was supported by the Tuhifadhi Maliasili Activity, which is managed by RTI International under the terms of Contract Number 72062121C00001. The strategy emphasizes the critical role of youth in biodiversity conservation and natural resource management. According to the strategy, youth are essential for the long-term success of conservation efforts, as they are more likely to be involved in conservation activities and have a deeper understanding of the local environment. The strategy also highlights the importance of addressing the challenges that youth face in accomplishing the activity results, including limited access to education and employment opportunities. The strategy outlines three strategic approaches to address these challenges: Address the Challenges that Youth Face, Design and Apply Approaches to Involve and Support Young People, and Measure and Monitor Youth Engagement. The first approach involves identifying factors affecting youth engagement in activity implementation and developing the capacity of all Tuhifadhi Maliasili staff and implementers to engage youth throughout activities. The second approach focuses on designing and applying approaches to involve and support young people in decision-making, management, and leadership opportunities. The third approach involves assessing youth integration and the implementation of youth-responsive solutions, recording results, expanding successful solutions, and sharing learnings. The strategy also emphasizes the importance of inclusivity, co-creation, and youth intersectionality in the implementation of the activity. The strategy authors from WI-HER, LLC include Dr. Taroub Harb Faramand, Maddison L. Hall, Elena Ghanotakis, and Allison Annette Foster.
