In the first quarter of FY 2021, the program made significant progress in various areas. In the teacher and class-focused learning support category, the program successfully completed the GOT certification of Tusome Pamoja materials for national distribution. This involved training 1,200 teachers in the use of the materials, which are designed to improve reading and mathematics skills among primary school students. The program also conducted training sessions for 500 teachers on the use of Read to Learn materials, which are designed to improve reading skills among primary school students. In addition, the program conducted mathematics training sessions for 1,000 teachers and provided coaching and mentoring workshops for 500 teachers. The program also conducted joint monitoring visits to 100 schools to assess the effectiveness of the learning support interventions. The results of these visits indicated that 80% of the schools visited had improved their learning outcomes, with a significant increase in student attendance and engagement. The program also made progress in the school and system-focused learning support category. The program successfully implemented the School Information System (SIS) in 100 schools in mainland Tanzania and 50 schools in Zanzibar. The SIS is designed to improve data collection and management at the school level, enabling schools to make informed decisions about resource allocation and instructional strategies. The program also conducted decentralized periodic learning assessments in 100 schools, which indicated that 70% of the schools visited had improved their learning outcomes. The program also conducted a system institutional capacity assessment, which identified areas for improvement in the education sector. In the community-focused learning support category, the program made progress in establishing low-cost support to community education mobilizers. The program trained 500 community education mobilizers in the use of the School Scorecard, which is a tool designed to improve school performance and accountability. The program also conducted a media action and social and behavior change communication campaign, which reached 1 million people through various media channels. The program also made progress in promoting gender equity and inclusion. The program trained 500 teachers on gender-responsive instructional activities and conducted a five-day safe school environment and SEL co-creation workshop in Zanzibar, which reached 200 beneficiaries.
