Abstract
WI implements the program in direct partnership with Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and through sub-awards with the American Red Cross (ARC), the Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD), SNV - Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), and the Vietnam Red Cross (VNRC). VFD supports the acceleration of Vietnam's transition to climate-resilient, low-emission, sustainable development by improving forest and natural resource management and engages communities in the development of action plans to address climate risks and vulnerabilities. The program works in close partnership with the Government of Vietnam (GVN) to prepare responses to climate change and move Vietnam's Green Growth Strategy into practice. VFD's approach to implementation of its three components prioritizes linkages between mitigation and adaptation to deliver a comprehensive, integrated response to climate change. Component 1: Sustainable Landscapes focuses on improving forest and natural resource management through community-based forest management, sustainable agriculture practices, and climate-smart agriculture. Component 2: Adaptation addresses climate change risks and vulnerabilities through climate change adaptation planning, disaster risk reduction, and emergency response. Component 3: National Policy and Coordination Component supports the development of national policies and strategies to address climate change, including the development of climate change action plans, climate change information centers, and low emission development plans. The program also focuses on building the capacity of local governments and communities to implement climate change adaptation and mitigation measures. The program has made significant progress in its first four years, with notable achievements in sustainable landscapes, adaptation, and national policy and coordination. The program has also made progress in building the capacity of local governments and communities to implement climate change adaptation and mitigation measures. In terms of quantitative impact, the program has achieved significant results in its first four years, including the establishment of 15 community-based forest management groups, the development of 10 climate change action plans, and the training of over 1,000 local government officials and community members on climate change adaptation and mitigation measures. The program has also made progress in its monitoring and evaluation efforts, with the establishment of a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and identify areas for improvement. The program has also conducted regular assessments and evaluations to ensure that it is meeting its objectives and making a meaningful impact. Looking ahead, the program will continue to focus on its three components, with a priority on building the capacity of local governments and communities to implement climate change adaptation and mitigation measures. The program will also continue to work closely with the Government of Vietnam to prepare responses to climate change and move Vietnam's Green Growth Strategy into practice.
