Abstract
The initiative focused on increasing financial resources for WASH projects, enhancing the capacity of local governments, and promoting private sector engagement. In Cambodia, the WASH-FIN initiative supported the development of a national WASH policy and the establishment of a WASH sector coordination mechanism. The initiative also provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Rural Development to improve its capacity to manage WASH programs. Key achievements included the development of a national WASH strategy and the establishment of a WASH sector coordination committee. In Southern Africa, the WASH-FIN initiative supported the development of a regional WASH policy and the establishment of a WASH sector coordination mechanism. The initiative also provided technical assistance to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to improve its capacity to manage WASH programs. Key achievements included the development of a regional WASH strategy and the establishment of a WASH sector coordination committee. The WASH-FIN initiative also supported on-demand activities, including technical assistance, training, and capacity building. The initiative also promoted knowledge management and resource mobilization to support WASH programs. Monitoring and evaluation were critical components of the initiative, with a focus on tracking progress and identifying areas for improvement. Key performance indicators (KPIs) were established to measure the success of the WASH-FIN initiative. These KPIs included the number of WASH projects implemented, the amount of funding mobilized, and the number of people served. The initiative also tracked progress towards achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring access to water and sanitation for all. Overall, the WASH-FIN initiative made significant progress in improving access to WASH services in several countries. The initiative's focus on financial resource mobilization, capacity building, and private sector engagement helped to increase the effectiveness of WASH programs and improve the lives of millions of people.
