Abstract
The program aims to provide recent female graduates with exposure and work experience, ultimately supporting them in obtaining full-time jobs in the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GIRoA). The internship program is designed to last four to six months and offers on-the-job training, mentoring, and regular capacity-building trainings led by the Women in Government team. In Year 4 of the EGGI project, the Women in Government internship program significantly expanded its activities, providing 256 internships in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, and Nangarhar. This expansion led to the establishment of a dedicated training unit, which developed a standard training curriculum in January 2013. The curriculum consists of 12 modules that focus on specific themes and topics designed to build skills that will help interns be successful in their internships and in their search for full-time employment. The standard training curriculum includes modules on computer and IT literacy skills, communication skills, teamwork and problem-solving skills, presentation skills, CV writing and interview tips, civil service recruitment process, good governance and accountability, human rights and women's issues, leadership, management and report writing, and accounting and financial management. The training sessions were delivered to interns in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, and Nangarhar, with a total of 6,538 person-days of training provided. At the end of the internship program, the Women in Government training team conducted a final test for the remaining interns in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, and Nangarhar. The test evaluated the knowledge and competencies of the interns at the end of the six-month internship program. The results showed that the interns obtained an average of over 90 percent on the final test, indicating a strong understanding of the key topics in the Women in Government training program. The Women in Government internship program has achieved significant success in developing the skills and competencies of its interns. The program has helped interns develop key professional skills, including computer and IT literacy, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The program has also provided interns with knowledge and understanding of good governance, human rights, and women's issues, as well as leadership and management skills. The program's expansion to four provinces has enabled it to reach a larger number of interns and provide them with training and capacity-building opportunities. The establishment of a dedicated training unit has ensured that the training curriculum is consistent and of high quality, and the development of a standard training curriculum has helped to ensure that interns in Kabul and the provinces receive the same information. Overall, the Women in Government internship program has made significant contributions to the development of the skills and competencies of its interns, and has helped to support them in obtaining full-time jobs in the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The program's success is a testament to the importance of investing in the development of women's skills and competencies, and its impact will be felt for years to come. The program's achievements are a result of the hard work and dedication of the Women in Government team, who have worked tirelessly to develop and deliver the training curriculum, and to support the interns in their development. The program's success is also a result of the support and commitment of the EGGI project, which has provided the necessary resources and funding to enable the program to expand and deliver its training and capacity-building activities. In conclusion, the Women in Government internship program has achieved significant success in developing the skills and competencies of its interns, and has helped to support them in obtaining full-time jobs in the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The program's expansion to four provinces has enabled it to reach a larger number of interns and provide them with training and capacity-building opportunities, and the establishment of a dedicated training unit has ensured that the training curriculum is consistent and of high quality.
