Abstract
The program aims to address the learning needs of 15 million primary grade students in seven Ethiopian languages. READ CO is implemented by Save the Children and its regional NGO partners, including Amhara Development Association, Tigray Development Association, Adult and Non-formal Education Association of Ethiopia, Organization for Welfare and Development in Action, and Save the Children South Hub. The program focuses on five key areas: Baankii Kitaabaa (Book Bank), Buufata Dubbisaa (Reading Materials), Fedhaan Tajaajiltoota Hawaasa Dubbisuuf (Community Outreach), Meeshaalee Dabalataan Dubbifaman (Master Trainers Training), and Hirmaannaa Maatiifi Hawaasaa (Parent and Community Engagement). The program aims to provide children with opportunities to practice reading, strengthen parental and community engagement, and improve reading skills among children. Baankii Kitaabaa is a book bank system that provides grade-level appropriate reading materials to children. The program aims to establish a book bank system in each school, which will provide children with access to a wide range of reading materials. The book bank system will be managed by the school administration, and the materials will be regularly updated to ensure that children have access to new and interesting reading materials. Buufata Dubbisaa is a program that aims to provide reading materials to children. The program will provide a wide range of reading materials, including books, magazines, and newspapers, to children in schools and communities. The materials will be selected based on the needs and interests of the children, and will be regularly updated to ensure that children have access to new and interesting reading materials. Fedhaan Tajaajiltoota Hawaasa Dubbisuuf is a community outreach program that aims to engage parents and communities in the reading process. The program will provide training and support to parents and community members to help them understand the importance of reading and how to support children in their reading development. The program will also provide opportunities for parents and community members to participate in reading activities and events. Meeshaalee Dabalataan Dubbifaman is a master trainers training program that aims to provide training and support to teachers and other education professionals to help them develop their reading skills and knowledge. The program will provide training on reading instruction, assessment, and intervention, as well as opportunities for teachers to share their experiences and best practices. The program has made significant progress in its first year, with over 2,500 teachers and education professionals receiving training and support. The program has also established a network of community outreach workers who are working to engage parents and communities in the reading process. The program has also established a system for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the program, which will help to identify areas for improvement and ensure that the program is meeting its goals.
