Abstract
The program is a collaborative effort between Jhpiego and the MCSP Liberia team. The training focuses on low-dose, high-frequency education for registered midwives, with the goal of improving maternal and child health outcomes. The program is structured around eight sessions, each covering a specific topic in maternal and child health. Session 1 focuses on respectful maternity care, emphasizing the importance of a supportive and respectful environment for women during childbirth. The session includes a knowledge assessment and answer key to evaluate participants' understanding of the topic. Session 2 covers infection prevention, highlighting the risks of infection during childbirth and the importance of proper hygiene practices. The session includes an exercise on infection prevention and a knowledge assessment with answer key. Session 3A focuses on clinical decision-making, providing midwives with the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions during childbirth. The session includes case studies and a knowledge assessment with answer key. Session 3B covers focused antenatal care, emphasizing the importance of regular prenatal check-ups and monitoring of maternal and fetal health. The session includes a session plan and a checklist for midwives to use during antenatal care. Session 4 focuses on the use of the partograph, a tool used to monitor labor and delivery. The session includes exercises and case studies, as well as a knowledge assessment with answer key. Session 5A covers care during labor and childbirth, including topics such as episiotomy, normal birth, and active management of the third stage of labor. Session 5B covers postpartum family planning, emphasizing the importance of providing women with information and support to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
