Grant is provided under the Child Survival project (9380500) to The Foundation of the Peoples of the South Pacific (FSP) to help the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Solomon Islands to develop a national Control of Diarrheal Disease (CDD) program.

Abstract
FSP and its local NGO partner, Soltrust, will: (1) help the Ministry design a national CDD program and determine national policy; (2) develop materials for training and health education; (3) educate in-service and pre-service health professionals in case management; (4) train auxiliary health workers to educate mothers in preventing and treating diarrhea; and (5) use community groups as channels for dissemination of health education. The CDD program will target children under age 5. Its goals are to improve the treatment of diarrhea and dehydration cases brought to a health facility, improve mothers" knowledge and practice relating to treatment of diarrhea in the home, and improve mothers" knowledge of how to prevent diarrhea through breastfeeding, proper weaning, measles immunization, and improved hygiene.
