Abstract
AALC will work primarily with two major national labor union federations: the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the National Congress of Trade Unions (NACTU). AALC voter education specialists will train approximately 50 trainers each from COSATU and NACTU. These 100 trainers will in turn train other trainers in approximately 14 branches within the COSATU affiliate and 23 branches within the NACTU affiliate. This network of labor union affiliates and trainers will allow approximately 983,000 COSATU and 258,000 NACTU members and their families to be trained in voter education, civil society, and polling procedures throughout the 9 labor union regions that make up South Africa"s national federation membership. Training methods will include workshops. The grant will fund the development of materials for voter education and registration.
