Grant is provided under the Community Outreach and Leadership Development Project (6740301) in South Africa to the Institute for Pastoral Education to conduct 81 voter and democracy education workshops for some 16,200 disadvantaged residents of the Grahamstown, Alicedale, Peterson, Port Alfred, and Bathurst communities in the Eastern Cape.

Abstract
These workshops, targeted particularly to women, young people, and farmworkers, will ensure that every participant has sufficient practice in how to vote in the April 1994 national election, will help participants to obtain identity documents, and will address their uncertainties about their role in a postapartheid South Africa.
