Grant is provided under the Human Rights project (9300086) to the University of Minnesota Law School to support a conference, to be held in October 1986, to foster tolerance for diversity of religion and belief.
1985

Abstract
In response to the UN"s call for assistance in implementing its 1981 Declaration on Eliminating All Forms of Intolerance and Discrimination Based on Religion and Belief, the conference will (1) stimulate dialogue from diverse intellectual and cultural perspectives on the causes and manifestations of intolerance and discrimination on both international and local levels; (2) explore creative strategies for ways of conflict resolution, combining academic and action approaches; and (3) support the establishment of a worldwide network of organizations and individuals who will work to implement the Declaration (including development of a network in the Upper Midwest Region of the United States). It is the view of many human rights experts that implementation of the Declaration is likely to reach an impasse unless active nongovernmental support develops.
