Grant to Andean Rural Health Care (ARHC) to implement a child survival program in Bolivia"s Carabuco area, to include immunization, nutritional monitoring and education, and oral rehydration education, provided in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and community organizations.
1987

Abstract
ARHC"s objectives under this project are to: (1) identify and maintain periodic contact with all children under age 5; (2) calculate childhood mortality by year and cause; and (3) provide and assess a range of child survival interventions. The latter will specifically include: immunizations against measles, TB, tetanus, whooping cough, diphtheria, and polio by the age of 2; bimonthly nutritional monitoring, with special nutrition education to mothers of malnourished children; and education of mothers in preparation and administration of oral rehydration therapy. ARHC will foster maximum community involvement and support, so that communities will pay half the salaries of lower-level health workers.
