Abstract
Key result areas included critical infrastructure rebuilt and improved, threat of flooding reduced, watershed governance strengthened, and public-private partnerships established. Livelihoods results showed that nearly 4,000 master farmers were trained, with 638 graduating, and agricultural campaigns generated $17 million in gross margins for farmers. Transplantation of 1.55 million tree seedlings benefited nearly 15,000 small farmers. The 2010 winter bean campaign in Rwanda achieved significant results, with total sales of 140,348,631 gourdes and a gross margin of $2,555,819. The campaign was implemented on 1,912 hectares, with production of 2,278 metric tons. The 2011 spring agricultural campaign covered 7,135 hectares, with total sales of 738,068,150 gourdes and a gross margin of $14,414,881. Training programs for master farmers were a key component of the initiative, with 638 graduates and nearly 4,000 candidates trained. Technological innovations, including vertical agriculture, drip irrigation, and soil analysis and mapping, were also implemented to improve agricultural productivity. Extension services by SMS and plant diagnostics laboratory were established to support farmers.
