Abstract
These actors include local, national, and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and implementing organizations, government entities, and media organizations. A Social Network Analysis (SNA) was conducted by the USAID Cambodia Green Future Activity team, led by FHI 360, to understand and identify key actors to support strategies for developing and disseminating relevant information. The SNA aimed to identify organizations with power or influence to promote environmental protection, partnerships for social behavior change communication (SBCC), and sources of technical support and SBCC information. The analysis involved collecting data on relationships between organizations, including past or ongoing relationships, formal connections, knowledge and information sharing, technical expertise sharing, joint project implementation, donor-grantee relationships, and development of SBCC materials or messages. Key findings from the SNA include the identification of organizations with power or influence to promote environmental protection, such as the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries. Partnerships for SBCC were also identified, including collaborations between NGOs, government entities, and media organizations. Sources of technical support and SBCC information were also mapped, including organizations providing training and capacity-building programs. The SNA results highlight the importance of collaboration and partnerships in promoting environmental protection and sustainable natural resource management in Cambodia. The analysis provides a foundation for the USAID Cambodia Green Future Activity to develop effective strategies for developing and disseminating relevant information to support the achievement of its intended outcomes. The SNA data collection involved surveying organizations involved in environmental protection and natural resource management in Cambodia. The survey instrument was designed to collect data on relationships between organizations, including types of relationships, analysis of relationships, and network connections. The data was analyzed using social network analysis techniques to identify key actors, partnerships, and sources of technical support and SBCC information. The results of the SNA are presented in a series of network maps, which provide a visual representation of the relationships between organizations. The network maps show the connections between organizations, including past or ongoing relationships, formal connections, knowledge and information sharing, technical expertise sharing, joint project implementation, donor-grantee relationships, and development of SBCC materials or messages. The network maps provide a valuable tool for understanding the complex relationships between organizations involved in environmental protection and natural resource management in Cambodia. The SNA has identified several organizations that have the power or influence to promote environmental protection in a positive way, including the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, and several NGOs. These organizations have been recommended for increasing knowledge on biodiversity conservation, forest protection, and natural resource management. The SNA has also identified several organizations that provide technical support and SBCC information, including training and capacity-building programs. Overall, the SNA has provided valuable insights into the complex relationships between organizations involved in environmental protection and natural resource management in Cambodia. The analysis has identified key actors, partnerships, and sources of technical support and SBCC information, which will inform the development of effective strategies for promoting environmental protection and sustainable natural resource management in Cambodia.
