Abstract
The project targets all vulnerable households in three communes: Chadakori, Guidan Sori, and Guidan Roumdji. The program's goal is to reduce extreme vulnerability for women, youth, and marginalized households in Maradi. The project is led by CARE Niger, with technical partners including WaterAid, Karkara, AREN, Association Nigerienne pour un Bien-Être Familial (ANBEF), and Developpement pour un Mieux-Etre (DEMI-E). The program focuses on four purposes: reducing extreme vulnerability, improving nutritional status, improving access to equitable and sustainable WASH services, and enhancing sustainable diversified livelihood opportunities. The program's technical partners provide leadership and advice on various aspects of the project, including the development of technical tools and guides, training, supervision, monitoring, and quality control. CARE Niger is responsible for overall program coordination, financial management, and ensuring the integration of gender equity into all aspects of the program. The security situation in Niger remained unstable during the quarter, with non-state armed groups perpetrating attacks against the civilian population. Despite this, the Hamzari program has not experienced any critical threats regarding the implementation of field activities. The Government of Niger increased the gasoil cost, resulting in a significant cost increase of everyday consumer goods, which has limited food access and consumption among poor households. The program's quarterly performance update highlights technical activities, program management, partnerships, collaborations, and linkages. The technical activities include farmer training programs, infrastructure development, and market linkage facilitation. The program management section discusses the roles and responsibilities of the technical partners and CARE Niger. The challenges and lessons learned section highlights the lessons learned from the quarter, including the importance of community engagement and the need for more effective communication with stakeholders. The challenges during the quarter include the security situation and the increase in gasoil costs. The plans for the next quarter include continuing to implement the technical activities, strengthening partnerships and collaborations, and addressing the challenges faced during the quarter. The annexes section includes a list of acronyms and a human interest story. The program's geographic focus is on the Maradi Region, with a specific emphasis on the communes of Chadakori, Guidan Sori, and Guidan Roumdji. The program's purpose is to achieve sustainable, equitable, and resilient food and nutrition security for vulnerable groups in the region. The program's technical partners provide leadership and advice on various aspects of the project, and CARE Niger is responsible for overall program coordination and ensuring the integration of gender equity into all aspects of the program.
