Abstract
The total fertility rate (TFR) is 2.54, and the under-five mortality rate is 494 per 100,000 live births. MCSP is providing technical assistance at the state level and in 13 districts, including three aspirational districts of the Indian government. The Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) is led by Jhpiego and is providing technical assistance for strengthening the delivery of Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) services in five high-focus states, including Chhattisgarh, and six north-eastern states. The goal of MCSP in Chhattisgarh is to create a network of Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs) across the state for provision of CPHC, leading to universal health coverage. The disease burden in Chhattisgarh is significant, with a high prevalence of communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional diseases. To address this, MCSP has set several objectives, including assisting the state in developing roadmaps and operational plans for operationalizing HWCs, building the institutional capacity of the state to train mid-level providers, and demonstrating CPHC delivery in intervention districts through establishment of HWCs. The plan for CPHC delivery in Chhattisgarh involves upgrading 800 Health and Wellness Centers to provide comprehensive primary health care services. The program aims to establish 282 HWCs, with 230 sub-centers, 44 primary health centers, and 8 urban primary health centers. Additionally, 38 Program Study Centers (PSCs) are to be established, with a focus on communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional diseases, as well as non-communicable diseases and injuries. MCSP is also supporting aspirational districts in Chhattisgarh, with a focus on strengthening the delivery of CPHC services. The program has established six PSCs, including DH Bijapur, DH Bilaspur, DH Durg, DH Kanker, DH Korba, and DH Raipur. The program aims to improve health outcomes in Chhattisgarh by strengthening the delivery of CPHC services and creating a network of HWCs across the state.
