Abstract
It is intended to assess the organizational capacity of Community, Family and Youth Resilience (CFYR) organizations. The tool covers five domains: Leadership, Management and Operations, Engagement Capacity, Programmatic Capacity, and Evaluative Capacity. The Leadership domain assesses the organization's vision, mission, governance, and strategic planning. It includes questions such as whether the organization has a formal written vision statement, whether the staff can clearly describe the vision and mission, and whether the board evaluates the performance of the CEO/Executive Director/President. The Management and Operations domain evaluates the organization's human resources, security and risk management, and operations and sustainability. It includes questions such as whether the organization has specified leaders or staff responsible for specific activities or projects, whether the areas of responsibility and authority are clearly defined, and whether the organization has the necessary volunteers to implement its activities. The Engagement Capacity domain assesses the organization's ability to engage with stakeholders, including funding and sustainability, communications and outreach, and partnerships. It includes questions such as whether the organization has been successful at fundraising, whether it strives to increase the diversity of its fundraising methods, and whether it has the ability to effectively engage with the press to disseminate information. The Programmatic Capacity domain evaluates the organization's ability to design, implement, and manage programs. It includes questions such as whether the organization has a written strategic plan with measurable goals and objectives, whether it regularly shares progress on the strategic plan with staff and members, and whether the implementation of the current strategic plan is on schedule. The Evaluative Capacity domain assesses the organization's ability to plan, collect data, measure outcomes and impact, and learn and improve. It includes questions such as whether the organization has a plan for evaluating its programs, whether it collects data on its programs, and whether it uses the data to make improvements. The OCA Tool is designed to be adapted to the specific needs of each organization, and it is intended to be used as a starting point for organizational capacity assessments. The tool provides a framework for assessing organizational capacity and identifying areas for improvement. The scoring system used in the OCA Tool rates each response on a scale of 1-5, with 1 indicating "No" and 5 indicating "Yes". The scores are then totaled and averaged to provide an overall score for each domain and set of questions. The scores can be used to identify areas of strength and weakness and to develop strategies for improvement. The OCA Tool is a valuable resource for organizations seeking to assess their capacity and identify areas for improvement. It provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating organizational capacity and can be adapted to meet the specific needs of each organization.
