2021 · 164 pages

Abstract
for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Tanzania Mission. The report assesses the status of quality of life for youth participants in the Advancing Youth Activity and evaluates the contributions of the activity to quality of life outcomes. Youth demographics in the assessment revealed that the majority of participants were between the ages of 18 and 24, with a slight majority of males. The status of youth livelihoods showed that a significant proportion of participants were engaged in informal employment, with a higher percentage of females working in the informal sector. The assessment also found that a substantial number of participants had limited access to education and health services. The report highlights the importance of addressing social and structural challenges that hinder youth livelihoods, including gender and cultural barriers, limited access to education and health services, and a lack of business enabling environment. The assessment also identifies the need for ongoing support to address these challenges and ensure the sustainability of the Advancing Youth Activity. The Advancing Youth Activity contributed to changes in youth quality of life outcomes, particularly in terms of livelihoods, leadership, and civic engagement. The activity's interventions, such as training and capacity building, entrepreneurship support, and community mobilization, were found to have a positive impact on youth livelihoods and quality of life. However, the report also notes that the activity faced challenges in implementation and sustainability, including limited resources and capacity constraints. The assessment identified several key findings, including the importance of addressing gender and cultural barriers to youth livelihoods, the need for ongoing support to address social and structural challenges, and the importance of evaluating the impact of the activity's interventions on quality of life outcomes. The report provides recommendations for ongoing implementation, future program design and strategy, and ongoing USAID strategy, including the need for continued support to address the social and structural challenges faced by youth in Tanzania.
