Abstract
When disagreements arise, individuals can choose to respond in a manner that respects themselves and their friends. This approach helps maintain healthy relationships and promotes positive interactions. To facilitate this discussion, participants are divided into two groups, one group of boys and one of girls if possible. Each group selects a facilitator, reporter, and reporter's assistant. The facilitator guides the group through the discussion, while the reporter shares the group's advice with the entire group. The assistant provides encouragement and support to the group. Three scenarios are presented to the groups, each with a unique situation that requires a respectful response. The first scenario involves Esther's friends wanting to go to the market at night. The second scenario presents Hamidu's friends telling him that they will smoke chamba after football to appear wise. The third scenario involves Hawa's friends suggesting that she should get a sugar daddy to afford nice clothes. In each scenario, the groups have five minutes to discuss how they would advise the individual to respond in a respectful manner. They create a story based on their discussion, which highlights the importance of maintaining healthy relationships and promoting positive interactions. After the discussion, the reporters from each group share their group's advice with the entire group. This allows participants to hear different perspectives and learn from one another. Discussion and Reflection The discussion that follows the sharing of advice allows participants to reflect on their own experiences with peer pressure. They are asked if things like the scenarios presented happen among their peers, and if so, how they respond. Participants are also asked about other ways in which their peers may influence them negatively and positively. To address negative peer pressure, participants are encouraged to know what they want, be prepared, and use assertive language when talking to their friends. This approach helps them maintain healthy relationships and avoid negative influences. Positive peer pressure, on the other hand, can have a positive impact on individuals. Participants are encouraged to influence their friends in positive ways, promoting healthy relationships and healthy relationships. Commitment To conclude the discussion, participants are asked to make a commitment to resist negative peer pressure and influence their friends in positive ways. Each participant is asked to name one thing they can do to resist negative peer pressure and one thing they can do to influence their friends in positive ways. This commitment serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining healthy relationships and promoting positive interactions.
