USAID. BUR. FOR FOOD FOR PEACE AND VOLUNTARY ASSISTANCE. OFC. OF PRIVATE AND VOLUNTARY COOPERATION (PVC)
Project to develop World Relief Corporation"s (WRC) capabilities to provide TA to its LDC counterpart organizations, primarily in income generation (IG) activities, and secondarily in agricultural development and women in development (WID).
1987
Abstract
A total of 90 IG projects will be implemented in Burkina Faso, Senegal, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Haiti, and Guatemala. Specifically, WRC will (1) add expertise to its central development staff in the person of an IG specialist who will coordinate IG technical assistance to counterpart staff, assist counterparts in conducting economic studies to identify IG strategies, and review materials on the IG programs of other PVO"s in order to produce IG manuals; (2) facilitate sharing of IG, agricultural, and WID expertise among WRC counterparts; (3) provide funds to specific IG projects, which will serve as opportunities for experimentation as well as directly benefit participating communities; (4) use WID projects in Burkina Faso as pilot projects to develop replicable IG projects serving women; and (5) conduct workshops to promote replication of successful projects. In Bangladesh, the workshops will focus on projects to promote small businesses and cooperatives, while in Haiti emphasis will be on the development of cooperatives and of new markets for agricultural products, the integration of IG projects into other development approaches, the establishment of small businesses, and the strengthening of entrepreneurial abilities. It is expected that 75% of the 90 in-country projects will still be operating when this project ends. Direct in-country support may be provided in countries other than those listed above, if approved by A.I.D.
