Abstract
The area is characterized by a diverse range of flora, including 151 families of plants and approximately 1820 species, many of which are endemic to the island or have a limited range in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Karpaz peninsula, where Buyukkonuk village is situated, is particularly notable for its wide range of interesting flora, including many rare plants. The village itself has a rich history, with old buildings standing as reminders of earlier times. Over 50 traditional arched houses, four olive mills, and numerous churches and religious buildings are scattered throughout the village. One of the most notable churches is the Orthodox church of St. Afxentios, which is dedicated to the saint who lived and died in Cyprus during the Arab raids of the 6th and 7th centuries. The church was restored in the middle of the 19th century, but its foundations date back to earlier churches. The village of Buyukkonuk is also home to a variety of flora, including the Acacia cyanophylla, Allium ampeloprasum, Anomone coronarium, and Asparagus acutifolius, among others. The area is also home to a range of fauna, including the Blue-leaved wattle, Broadleaf wild leek, and Phoenician juniper. Tourists visiting Buyukkonuk can enjoy a range of activities, including hiking, biking, and exploring the village's historic buildings and churches. The village also offers a range of services, including coffee shops, traditional restaurants, accommodation, handicraft shops, and a village market. Visitors can also take part in activities such as donkey rides, cheese-making, and olive mill tours. The village's history and culture are deeply intertwined with its natural environment, and visitors can experience this firsthand by exploring the village's historic buildings and churches, and by participating in activities that showcase the local flora and fauna. The village's unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty makes it a truly special destination for tourists. Buyukkonuk's location in the Komi Kebir region of Cyprus provides a unique opportunity for tourists to experience the island's rich history and culture, as well as its stunning natural beauty. The village's historic buildings, churches, and natural environment make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in exploring the island's rich heritage.
