Abstract
The project is implemented by the Institute for Reproductive Health, Georgetown University, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The FACT Project focuses on three main research areas: determining the impact of fertility awareness on FP use, establishing the impact of increased access to family planning on FP use, and increasing recognition and incorporation of FAM and fertility awareness in policies, guidelines, and programs. The project employs a range of interventions, including radio dramas, community-based provision of family planning, and technical assistance to governments and organizations. In Rwanda, the FACT Project implemented a radio drama intervention, which aimed to promote fertility awareness and increase FP use among women. The intervention involved the production and dissemination of radio dramas that addressed topics such as fertility awareness, FP methods, and reproductive health. The project also conducted focus group discussions and in-depth interviews to assess the impact of the intervention. In Uganda, the FACT Project implemented the EDEAN intervention, which aimed to promote fertility awareness and increase FP use among women. The intervention involved the use of community-based provision of family planning, community health workers, and female community health volunteers. The project also conducted focus group discussions and in-depth interviews to assess the impact of the intervention. The FACT Project also implemented the CycleBeads App intervention in India, Ghana, and Kenya. The intervention involved the use of a mobile app that provided women with fertility awareness information and allowed them to track their menstrual cycles. The project also conducted focus group discussions and in-depth interviews to assess the impact of the intervention. The FACT Project also provided technical assistance to governments and organizations in Nepal, Rwanda, and Uganda. The technical assistance involved the provision of training and capacity-building programs for health workers, policymakers, and program managers. The project also conducted assessments and evaluations to identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations for future programming. The FACT Project has made significant progress in promoting fertility awareness and increasing access to family planning services. The project has demonstrated the effectiveness of fertility awareness-based methods in increasing FP use among women, particularly in low-resource settings. The project has also highlighted the importance of community-based provision of family planning and the need for technical assistance to governments and organizations. The FACT Project has also contributed to the development of policies, guidelines, and programs that promote fertility awareness and increase access to family planning services. The project has worked with governments and organizations to develop and implement policies and guidelines that support the use of fertility awareness-based methods and increase access to family planning services.
