Abstract
The Deputy Chief of Party and the Chief of Party met with the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development (MLHSD) to discuss the implementation of the LTA activities. The MLHSD official observed the implementation of the LTA activities and expressed satisfaction with the progress made. The LTA program conducted 35 trainings in January 2018, including 6 Village Assembly meetings, 6 Village Council meetings, 3 trainings for para-surveyors and adjudicators, 3 hamlet level sensitization meetings, 3 women's sensitization meetings, and 1 women's focus group discussion. A total of 2,917 Certificates of Customary Rights of Occupancy (CCROs) were printed and registered by a four-person team over a two-week period. The LTA program also conducted demarcation and adjudication of land parcels in several villages, including Chamhuri, Matembo, Kisanga, and Weruweru. The program trained 2,507 people, including 59% women and 35% youth, on the VLUP and first registration introduction. The program also conducted 35 trainings for para-surveyors and adjudicators, and 3 hamlet level sensitization meetings. The LTA program received visits from several visitors, including five lecturers from Ardehi University, who observed the implementation of the LTA activities and requested further collaboration. The program also received a visit from the Coordinator of IUCN SUSTAIN Africa Programme and two staff members from Africa Wildlife Foundation, who observed the preparation of VLUPs and MAST/TRUST activities. The LTA program submitted the draft Quarterly Report for the first quarter of 2018 to USAID for review and approval. The program also conducted several activities, including printing and registering CCROs, conducting trainings, and demarcating and adjudicating land parcels. The LTA program has made significant progress in implementing its activities, including printing and registering CCROs, conducting trainings, and demarcating and adjudicating land parcels.
