Abstract
The discussion is organized by age and sex, and for IDP/host community learners, to enable participants to be as relaxed and honest as possible. The discussion begins with questions about equal access to learning, including whether all children in the community go to school and what groups of children or young people are most often not in school. The discussion also explores what could be done to help such children get into or stay in school, as well as the common and different learning requirements of IDP and community children. The discussion then shifts to questions about protection and wellbeing, including whether the school is accessible and located in a secure area, and whether children are safe on their way to and from school. The discussion also explores what is being done to make sure children are safe when traveling to and from schools in the community, and what additional efforts are needed. The discussion also touches on participation, including the main ways community members currently support schools and what additional roles are priorities for the community to take on to improve education in the community. The discussion also explores what school management decisions the PTA/SMC has a say in and what the top two issues discussed at the most recent SMC meeting were. Finally, the discussion explores community resources, including what community-based learning activities exist in the community, such as families holding classes in homes or community structures, and informal gatherings of children for non-formal/recreation activities. The discussion also explores what can be changed or improved for IDP children in the community and what children and young people in the community can do to help address these issues. The focus group discussion is a crucial tool for understanding the perspectives of parents in the LGEA and Nigeria on key aspects of education in the area and how they have been affected by the ongoing conflict. By exploring these perspectives, the discussion aims to identify the main challenges and opportunities for improving education in the community and to inform strategies for addressing these challenges and opportunities. The discussion is organized around a set of questions that are designed to elicit in-depth and nuanced responses from participants. The questions are carefully crafted to explore the perspectives of parents on key aspects of education, including equal access to learning, protection and wellbeing, participation, and community resources. The discussion is also designed to be flexible and adaptable, allowing participants to share their perspectives and experiences in a way that is comfortable and meaningful for them.
