Abstract
The program focuses on increasing access to productive resources, such as land, water, and equipment, as well as providing training and technical assistance to farmers. Implementation of the program has led to an increase in the adoption of value-enhancing technologies and services, with over 2,000 farmers receiving training in sustainable agriculture practices. The program has also established demonstration plots in 15 communities, which have shown yield improvements of up to 60% when applying the recommended practices. Community feedback has indicated that women-headed households have shown higher adoption rates for all practices except mechanical land preparation. The program has also established a voucher system to support farmers in accessing productive resources, with over 6,343 producers benefiting from the program. The program has also focused on employment and enterprise development, with increased access to business development services and entrepreneurial, managerial, and technical skills. The program has also improved access to finance, with over 80% of farmers reporting an increase in income. In addition to these achievements, the program has also implemented activities to address the impact of fertilizer costs on farmers. The program has established a grant program to support farmers in accessing alternative fertilizers and has introduced effective technologies and practices to reduce the impact of fertilizer costs. The program has also implemented cross-cutting activities to address the needs of smallholder farmers. These activities include improving the business environment for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), enhancing risk management and climate resilience, and increasing women and youth empowerment. Overall, the Feed the Future Senegal Dooleel Mbay program has made significant progress in improving the productivity and income of smallholder farmers in Senegal. The program's focus on increasing access to productive resources, providing training and technical assistance, and addressing the needs of smallholder farmers has led to improved outcomes for farmers and their communities. The program has also established a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and identify areas for improvement. The system includes data collection and management, as well as a baseline study to assess the impact of the program. In terms of geographic focus, the program has targeted the Senegal River Valley and the Casamance region, with a focus on improving the productivity and income of smallholder farmers in these areas. The program has also established partnerships with local organizations and government agencies to support the implementation of the program.
