Abstract
The program supports the Government of Colombia's goals and promotes sustainable land uses in critical ecosystems, leading to economic and social benefits for local communities. The program's main achievements in Q1 FY20 include placing 10,809 hectares of land under improved natural resources management and 6,747 hectares under legal protection. Additionally, 1,000 farmers received training in sustainable agriculture practices, and 500 hectares of land was restored through reforestation efforts. The program's progress is aligned with its FY20 annual work plan, which focuses on increasing the area of land under legal protection, demonstrating the economic and social benefits of conserving biodiversity, and integrating biodiversity into national, regional, and local land use planning tools. The program's objectives are to conserve Colombian biodiversity through effective protection for priority species and ecosystems, establish financial incentives for populations living in conflict-affected communities, and implement conservation areas into territorial organization plans to mitigate the main threats to biodiversity. The program's progress under each objective is summarized in Section 1, which highlights the achievements in Montes de María, SNSM-PP, and Orinoquía. The section also presents the progress under CLIN 002 Task Order No. 2, which focuses on establishing financial incentives for populations living in conflict-affected communities. The program's cross-cutting activities and other contract reporting requirements are presented in Section 3. Annex A includes a summary of the indicator progress, while Annex B contains the program's staffing structure, and Annex C includes communications deliverables. The program's progress in Q1 FY20 demonstrates its commitment to conserving Colombia's biodiversity and promoting sustainable land uses in critical ecosystems. The program's achievements are expected to continue in the subsequent quarters, with a focus on increasing the area of land under legal protection and demonstrating the economic and social benefits of conserving biodiversity. The program's progress is aligned with the Government of Colombia's goals and objectives, and it is expected to contribute to the country's sustainable development and peacebuilding efforts. The program's achievements are also expected to have a positive impact on the environment, local communities, and the economy.
