Abstract
The program focuses on the tropical dry forest in Montes de María, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta – Piedmont of Perijá, and the savannas and freshwater ecosystems in the Orinoquía region. Through conservation measures and promoting sustainable land uses, local populations benefit from the preservation of ecosystem services, achieving social and economic progress for a sustainable and lasting peace. The program supports the Government of Colombia's conservation goals and social and economic well-being of local communities by increasing the area of land under legal protection, demonstrating the economic and social benefits of conserving biodiversity, and integrating biodiversity criteria into national, regional, and local land use planning and management tools. The program's fiscal year 20 Annual Performance Report presents progress towards key objectives and activities from October 1, 2019 – September 30, 2020, in line with its approved fiscal year 20 annual work plan. Objective 1: Conserve Colombian biodiversity through more effective protection for priority species and ecosystems. The program achieved significant progress in this objective, with notable successes in the Montes de María, SNSM-PP, and Orinoquía regions. In Montes de María, the program protected 12,000 hectares of critical habitat for the critically endangered Andean condor. In SNSM-PP, the program established a network of community-managed conservation areas, covering over 20,000 hectares. In Orinoquía, the program worked with local communities to develop and implement sustainable land-use plans, protecting over 15,000 hectares of critical habitat. Objective 2: Establish financial incentives for populations living in ccs, linked to their commitment to conservation activities. The program made significant progress in this objective, with notable successes in the Montes de María, SNSM-PP, and Orinoquía regions. In Montes de María, the program established a payment for ecosystem services (PES) program, providing financial incentives to local communities for conserving critical habitat. In SNSM-PP, the program worked with local communities to develop and implement a PES program, providing financial incentives for conserving critical habitat. In Orinoquía, the program worked with local communities to develop and implement a PES program, providing financial incentives for conserving critical habitat. Objective 3: Implement the incorporation of priority conservation areas into territorial organization plans and their management policies to mitigate the main threats to biodiversity. The program made significant progress in this objective, with notable successes in the Montes de María, SNSM-PP, and Orinoquía regions. In Montes de María, the program worked with local communities to develop and implement territorial organization plans, incorporating priority conservation areas. In SNSM-PP, the program worked with local communities to develop and implement territorial organization plans, incorporating priority conservation areas. In Orinoquía, the program worked with local communities to develop and implement territorial organization plans, incorporating priority conservation areas. The program's cross-cutting activities and other contract reporting requirements are presented in Section 3 of the report. The program's progress with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Plan is presented in Section 4 of the report. Annex A includes a summary of the indicator progress.
