Abstract
The Program aims to increase the area of land under legal protection, demonstrate the economic and social benefits of conserving biodiversity, and integrate biodiversity criteria into national, regional, and local land use planning and management tools. The Program's fiscal year 20 Third Quarterly (Q3) Report presents progress towards key objectives and activities from April 1 – June 30, 2020, in line with its approved fiscal year 20 annual work plan. The Program's objectives are to conserve Colombian biodiversity through more effective protection for priority species and ecosystems, establish financial incentives for communities living in conservation corridors, and incorporate priority conservation areas into territorial organization plans to mitigate threats to biodiversity. During Q3 FY20, the Program achieved several key milestones. In the Montes de María region, the Program placed 7,920 hectares under improved natural resources management, with a focus on sustainable agriculture practices and sustainable forest management. In the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta-Piedmont of Perijá region, the Program supported the establishment of a protected area, which will provide habitat for priority species and protect ecosystem services. The Program also made progress in establishing financial incentives for communities living in conservation corridors. In the Orinoquía region, the Program supported the development of a payment for ecosystem services (PES) program, which will provide financial benefits to communities for conserving and restoring natural habitats. In addition to these achievements, the Program continued to work with local communities to develop and implement sustainable land use practices. In the Montes de María region, the Program supported the development of a sustainable agriculture program, which will provide training and technical assistance to farmers on sustainable agriculture practices. The Program also made progress in incorporating priority conservation areas into territorial organization plans to mitigate threats to biodiversity. In the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta-Piedmont of Perijá region, the Program supported the development of a territorial organization plan, which will provide a framework for managing natural resources and protect ecosystem services. The Program's progress in Q3 FY20 demonstrates its commitment to conserving Colombia's biodiversity and promoting sustainable development in the country. The Program's achievements in the Montes de María, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta-Piedmont of Perijá, and Orinoquía regions highlight the importance of protecting priority species and ecosystems, establishing financial incentives for communities living in conservation corridors, and incorporating priority conservation areas into territorial organization plans to mitigate threats to biodiversity. The Program's success in Q3 FY20 is a testament to the hard work and dedication of its staff, partners, and stakeholders. The Program's achievements demonstrate the potential for conservation and sustainable development to contribute to social and economic progress in Colombia. The Program's progress in Q3 FY20 also highlights the importance of continued support for conservation and sustainable development in Colombia. The Program's achievements demonstrate the need for sustained investment in conservation and sustainable development to protect Colombia's biodiversity and promote sustainable development in the country. The Program's success in Q3 FY20 is a critical step towards achieving its overall objectives and contributing to the conservation of Colombia's biodiversity. The Program's achievements demonstrate the potential for conservation and sustainable development to contribute to social and economic progress in Colombia and highlight the importance of continued support for conservation and sustainable development in the country.
