Abstract
The report highlights the implementation of technical interventions for COVID-19 response efforts in Madagascar. During the months of July and September 2021, ACCESS continued to provide technical support for the implementation of COVID-19 response efforts, with a main focus on the delivery of the second phase of COVID-19 vaccines in the 14 ACCESS-supported regions and in the region of Analamanga. The report notes that 226,589 persons were vaccinated from July to September 2021, including 203,637 who were fully vaccinated and 22,952 who received the first dose. The report highlights several key activities and results, including the setup of improved vaccinodromes in ACCESS-supported regions and in the region of Analamanga. ACCESS supported the development of graphics, lighting, and installation of TV screens in post-vaccination observation rooms to facilitate communication to targeted audiences. The report also notes that 4 vaccinodromes were set up in Analamanga region, with a target of delivering the vaccine to targeted groups. In addition, ACCESS provided technical and financial support during joint formative supervision in the region of Sofia and conducted an orientation on the processes of data cleaning and updating datasets in DHIS2. The project also reviewed the stock management of vaccines and developed recommendations for improvements. The report also highlights the support provided to the development and deployment of electronic recording and data management systems. ACCESS participated in the PEV COVID steering committee meetings, which facilitated the identification of needs of support in data recording and management, including the design of vaccination cards with QR codes. Furthermore, the report notes that ACCESS supported the training of 833 new Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) on the existing COVID-19 module in CommCare during this reporting period. The modules cover areas such as detection of suspected cases, contact tracing, and community sensitization. The report also highlights the efforts made to promote COVID-19 prevention measures and the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccination through mass media broadcasting. Eight regions integrated COVID-19 related messages into their radio and TV spots, and 2,965 broadcasts were aired during the reporting period. In total, it is estimated that 2,014,410 people were reached by vaccine-related messages and 1,851,519 people were reached by COVID-related risk communication messaging through mass and social media in 11 regions (excluding Analamanga and the three Highlands regions).
