Abstract
Elie Technical Institute, a grantee organization, has been implementing the Granting 10 scholarships to TVET students at St. Elie Technical Institute project, funded by the USAID's CSP-TO4-20-007 grant. The project aims to provide financial assistance to students pursuing technical and vocational education. During the reporting period from January 14, 2021, to April 14, 2021, the institute provided financial assistance to 10 students, who completed all the subjects for the Second trimester. These subjects included Arabic, French and English language, Social Science, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, General Mathematics and Finance, General Accounting and Analytics, Economy and Trade relations, Law and organization of institutions, and Community Service. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the institute successfully completed all the scheduled lessons through distance learning, with students and professors showing remarkable cooperation. The institute also conducted a Second Quarterly Test, which yielded good results for students who attended 100% and acceptable results for students who were absent due to health and exceptional reasons. The institute's academic standing and performance were satisfactory, with students making every effort to succeed and develop their skills. The number of beneficiaries reached during this reporting period was 10 students, who received financial assistance and completed their courses. The progress towards the MEL targets was satisfactory, with students successfully completing their course and preparing for a two-month internship. The institute has achieved several goals and objectives established for the reporting period, including completing all the scheduled lessons through distance learning and conducting a Second Quarterly Test. The institute's achievements and successes have had a direct impact on the students, restoring their confidence in vocational and technical education and its role in development. The institute has also contributed to fulfilling the students' wish to advance their education, improve their abilities, and help their parents with household expenses. However, the institute faced several challenges, including the absence of four students for a long time due to health and family reasons. The institute addressed this issue by meeting with the parents, who pledged that their children would not be absent in the third trimester and expressed a desire to compensate for the lessons they did not attend. The teachers opened remote support classes and made up for everything the students missed, giving them alternative exams. The students' performance improved significantly, and they passed the alternative exams. The institute has also shared a success story from one of the students, who expressed gratitude for the USAID scholarship and appreciated the support that helped them realize their dream of studying and continuing to work towards success. The student promised to work hard and eventually return something to others, maybe a scholarship for future students like them.
