Abstract
The meeting was attended by Lucy Kanyotu, the Field Coordinator for the Implementing Partner (IP) in Naivasha. The purpose of the meeting was routine, focusing on field security support and security information liaison. Population Services International (PSI) has been working in Kenya since 1989, improving the health of Kenyans through a private sector approach. The IP's program, APHIA PLUS Rift, began in March 2011 and is set to end in April 2019. The program is implemented by PS Kenya, with the Naivasha Satellite Office serving as the primary location for field operations. The IP expressed concerns regarding the safety of staff in the field, citing civil unrest cases in the region that have disrupted normal operations. The IP also emphasized the need for staff safety and security awareness, as well as emergency response procedures. To address these concerns, the IP and the Field Security Advisor (FSA) agreed on several action points. The IP will ensure that staff are kept abreast of all safety and security matters in the region, and will sensitize staff about established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contingency plans. The FSA will monitor the security situation through various sources, including open-source information and field monitors, and will ensure compliance with SOPs and contingency plans. The FSA will also maintain regular contact with the IP and provide needed security information support and guidance. Regular reporting of security-related incidents in the region to the PLSO is recommended, as well as regular liaison between the IP and the FSA for prompt notification of any security-related incidents. The IP is also advised to conduct due diligence on evacuation and health service providers who can be pre-qualified and engaged for service delivery.
