The Limpopo Province Primary Health Care (PHC) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were revised in February 2014, with the aim of standardizing practices and procedures in primary health care facilities.

Abstract
The SOPs are living documents that detail written instructions on how to perform specific functions or activities, and they are reviewed every two years. The SOPs cover a wide range of topics, including the preparation and revision of SOPs, stock take and inventory management, storage and handling of medicines and surgical sundries, and communication channels across all health care levels. The SOPs also address issues such as safe prescribing and dispensing of medicines, prevention and management of expired and obsolete stock, and recall of medicines and surgical sundries. The development of the SOPs involved extensive work and consultation with various people and organizations, including the Limpopo Department of Health, Pharmaceutical Services Provincial Office, Pharmaceutical Depot, and Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS) Program. The SOPs were facilitated by the Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance division, and they were reviewed and finalized by the SIAPS Program. The SOPs are divided into 25 sections, each addressing a specific aspect of primary health care. The sections include SOP 01, which outlines the procedure for the preparation and revision of SOPs, and SOP 02, which addresses stock take at primary health care and community health centers. Other sections cover topics such as storage of medicines and surgical sundries, handling of returned medicines and surgical sundries, and communication channels across all health care levels. The SOPs are designed to ensure standardization of practices and procedures in primary health care facilities, and they are intended to be implemented at the operational level. The SOPs are living documents that will be reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that they remain relevant and effective.
