Abstract
A single teacher is responsible for teaching and managing the class throughout the school year. MG classes are often found in schools with limited student enrollment or in remote areas such as rural villages and mountain communities. The Basa Pilipinas project, in collaboration with the Department of Education, aims to provide teachers of MG classes with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively teach their students. The project offers training and teaching materials, including Teacher's Guides and books, to support the instruction of MG classes. The teaching materials for MG classes are designed to cater to the individual abilities and needs of students. The materials are organized into two cycles: the Even cycle and the Odd cycle. The Even cycle is for school years 2014, 2016, 2018, and so on, while the Odd cycle is for school years 2015, 2017, 2019, and so on. Each unit of the school year follows a two-week instructional sequence, where students focus on a single topic or theme for two weeks. The teaching materials for MG classes include a Teacher's Guide and a Leveled Reader. The Teacher's Guide provides a detailed outline of the lesson, including the topic, theme, and activities for each day. The Leveled Reader is a book that is tailored to the reading level of the students. The teacher uses the Teacher's Guide to plan and deliver the lesson, while the students read the Leveled Reader to practice their reading skills. The Basa Pilipinas project has developed a range of teaching materials for MG classes, including a Teacher's Guide and a Leveled Reader for each unit of the school year. The materials are designed to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the students, and can be modified to suit the abilities and needs of students in different grade levels. The teaching materials for MG classes also include a Listening Story, which is a story that is read aloud to the students. The Listening Story is designed to engage the students and help them develop their listening skills. In Unit 3 of the school year 2016, 2018, and 2020, the Listening Story is "Ang Diwata sa Bundok ng Makiling" and "Ang Alamat ni Maria Makiling". The Basa Pilipinas project has also developed a range of other teaching materials for MG classes, including a Handbook for Teachers of Multi-Grade Classes and a Profile of Multigrade Schools in the Philippines. These materials provide teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively teach their students and manage their MG classes. Overall, the teaching materials for MG classes are designed to provide teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively teach their students and manage their MG classes. The materials are flexible and adaptable to the needs of the students, and can be modified to suit the abilities and needs of students in different grade levels.
