Abstract
The development of these materials is guided by the principle that in a multigrade classroom, pupils learn and work at different levels of competence. Pupils are expected to do tasks and produce outputs according to the set objectives for their grade levels. For example, Grades 1-2/2-3 pupils may listen to the same Reading Aloud/Listening Story and answer the same set of questions but may focus on different elements of the story (i.e. characters, plot, etc.) or reading skill (i.e. making inferences or predictions). They are also expected to produce different outputs depending on the skills being developed for that particular week. The multigrade outlines are designed to be used in a two-week instructional sequence, with the first week following the Grade 1 Teacher's Guide and the second week following the Grade 2 Teacher's Guide. This pattern is repeated throughout the year, with the teacher switching between the two grade levels every two weeks. The materials are designed to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the teacher and the pupils. The Basa Pilipinas multigrade plan is based on the DepEd's K-12 Curriculum Guide in Mother Tongue, December 2013. The plan is designed to be used in schools with multigrade classes, which are common in rural and isolated communities. The materials are intended to support the teacher in providing instruction to pupils of different grade levels in the same classroom. The multigrade outlines include a range of activities and tasks, including reading aloud, leveled readers, and differentiated activities for each grade level. The materials are designed to be used in conjunction with the Grade 1 and Grade 2 Teacher's Guides, which provide more detailed instructions and activities for each grade level. The Basa Pilipinas multigrade materials are designed to be used in schools with limited resources and infrastructure. The materials are intended to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the teacher and the pupils, and are designed to be used in a variety of contexts. The materials are also designed to be used in conjunction with other instructional materials and resources, such as textbooks and educational technology.
